Recommendations and words of support from people I've worked with
On career development
Working with Pete Malicki has to be one of the best things I've done for my career. Not only did he afford many wonderful work opportunities for me, but he also got me thinking with a business mind, not just a creative one. After all, this is a business, and you need to be in the industry of business.
- Mikaela Franco, AFI-nominated actress

Had an amazing career consultation with Pete Maliki from World Monologue Games (of which I was a Round 1 judge). If you are a freelance artist, career artist, and/or committed to the long term in the arts in Australia, I’d heartily recommend him as a career consultant! And if you are looking for a 10 minute monologue, he is the world leader. I really appreciated your warmth, candor and expertise.
- Matt Young, Broadway Dancer and Head Acting Coach at Takuna Acting Club

Pete is my recommended go-to for business and production advice in Sydney. I'm grateful for his help: he's enabled me to produce work for Short + Sweet, given me paid work through his Monologue Project, and provided outstanding advice on producing and writing my own shows. Get to know Pete Malicki if you want work in Sydney theatres.
- Atlas Adams, world-record-holding improviser

Award winning writer, producer and director Pete Malicki holds an important, information-packed workshop for all sectors of the creative industry. Pete generously shares his wealth of experience while guiding you through the steps towards a successful career in the arts. I recommend Pete's workshop to anyone wanting clues on how to make their creative dream a blossoming business.
- Eliza St John, award-winning actress

Having had the opportunity to work with and learn from Pete Malicki has been one of the best things I could have done for my career. Pete has many years of experience to draw from and is amazingly knowledgeable. Every time I go to one of his workshops I learn something new. As a teacher he is professional, creates a relaxed atmosphere, is incredibly encouraging to artists and gets you to think about things from a different perspective. If you get an opportunity to learn from him, take it!
- Katharine Babatzanis, actress

I think you nailed it when suggesting my problem is overwhelm and systems, as supposed to lack of knowledge of what I should/shouldn't be doing. I've set myself some good habits with a mixture of Trello, journaling, to-do lists, and setting daily reminders across my tech. Setting aside 15 minutes in the morning and evening to touch base with this seems to be working. So a huge thank you for that; the session kicked my arse to 'get back to work' instead of worrying about all the work I had to do. My aim is to make sure all the groundwork is solid with existing titles before publishing or promoting anything new.
- Angharad Thompson Rees, Author, Illustrator, Comic Scriptwriter

Pete's class was an eye opener for me. When I studied at NYFA we never got the other side of filming. We were always in front of the camera. With his class, I learned how it would be like to be a producer/assistant of a show, which has helped me a lot on the feature I'm working on as a 2nd AD. There was one lesson he taught us which was about taking action in our lives and going for what we want. With this advice in mind I quit my horrible dead-end job and auditioned for an indie film, which I scored the lead for. Without this one class I wouldn't have gone for it. I thought to myself "What would Pete do?" and I found the answer. He is intelligent, witty and it shows in his classes. I would love to be in another class he has and one day I hope to work with him again.
- Helen Shoobert

Pete Malicki's Business Skills For Artists workshop was helpful and encouraging. In the acting industry it can sometimes feel as though you have very little control of what work/jobs you get, but I went away from Pete's workshop with quite a long list of simple actions I could take right away to help myself move forward as an artist. His straight-forward, practical approach encouraged me to simply try my ideas and see what happens, because by not doing that, nothing will happen.
- Roz Hicks, actor

I'd thoroughly recommend Pete Malicki's Business Skills For Artists seminar. Pete delivers an excellent overview of pretty much everything you need to know about the 'business' end of show business in an engaging and highly entertaining manner. Comprehensive, clear and action-orientated, this seminar is a must for anyone seeking to seriously further their career in the arts.
- Warren Glover, writer and actor

If you want acting to become your job, you will stop dreaming about it because you will gain the ability to actually do it through this course (The Intelligent Actor).
- Xenia Bovitori, actor

The course provided me with a overview of the industry succinctly and efficiently. It is an essential course for anyone who wants to work as an actor. Given the limited time commitment that the course requires and the amount of information that is covered, it is worth every cent. You have an easy and relaxing teaching style. I walked away with an overview of how the industry functions behind the scenes, what an actor needs to do personally to develop a career, what professional behaviour is expected of an actor and how to approach the important people and be successful in developing professional with those people.
- Steve Allnutt

It was a really good course (The Intelligent Actor); very practical and I am really glad I did it. Far more able to throw myself into performing, with fewer worries about "am I getting it right?". And the combination of producing/business skills that were included are a rare find in dramatic arts-related training courses. I highly recommend the course.
- Glenn Groves, actor

I have learned so much by partaking in The Intelligent Actor course! I walked away with not only having had learned, practised and performed a 10 minute monologue but also having had focused on business skills and got a much better understanding of the theatre industry. Pete is a phenomenal teacher and fantastic role model to all aspiring actors wanting to make it in the industry. Pete has all of the knowledge and the skills to help you be the best actor you can be. THANK YOU PETE!!!
- Nicole Torode, actor

Wow! What a day, my head is still buzzing with inspiration! You covered so much, I'm so glad I could attend - great to have tangible tasks to work at, to feel encouraged to just keep on going, (!) and to be able to connect with others.

- Phil Chaffey, actor and writer

Thank you again for your workshop, it's given me a lot of content to draw from and encouraged me for being on the right path because of the things I've done so far.
- Davita van der Velde, actor

I found Pete's approach to business skills and career planning for artists incredibly helpful. I am relatively new to the arts industry and was becoming quite depressed at the lack of jobs and my own lack of career direction because of this. I felt like there was a million creative projects and avenues I wanted to pursue but no way of justifying why I would be doing them. Pete’s method of laying out career goals and steps to take towards them means I know what to do and when to do it, with clear direction. The method of laying out a weekly capacity plan also ensures I am always devoting time to my career goals despite whatever other commitments I have. I feel a lot more confident in my direction and approach to my creative career after only an hour workshop with him!
- Rose Newland, videographer

This is the perfect course for creative people who struggle with organising themselves and thinking like a business person - it was just what I needed and will improve my chances of being successful in the arts. Pete knows artists and has a lot of experience in the arts so the content is tailored very well to motivate creative types to be better business managers, marketers, networkers and goal-setters. This is the best course I’ve done to help me get closer to my goal of having my own creative business.
- Jessica Harwood, Textiles Artist

You inspired me to keep going with my songwriting! Thank you!

It was great to sit down with Pete and focus on my career and what I would like to get out of it and where I needed to go. He helped me to talk through goals and work out strategies and structure with a clear and concise manner. I'd definitely recommend Pete to coach you for the next step in your career.
- Sally Williams, actor

Firstly I would just like to say thank you so much for the course over the last three months, I really really enjoyed it and I found so much benefit from it. Secondly, I felt that it challenged my thinking and challenged the way I conduct myself. I believe this is going to be very beneficial for me. Thank you and talk soon.
-    Talin Agon, founder Queen of the Jungle Productions, actress

And thank you again for your amazing coaching at the start of the year - it was invaluable. I seriously can't emphasise enough how impactful your very simple coaching was. The film got made and I'm really pleased with the way I showed up.
- Ruth Berkoff, actress

Getting to meet up with and speak to Pete (even digitally) was a wonderful experience. He was there, present, positive, cheerful and he actually listened to me! Moreover, he shared his own outlook and great feedback in the two hours he offered, something which will doubtless come in useful to me in the future -- whether it be creatively or business-wise. He's genuinely great!
- Mihnea Zamfirescu, video game producer and actor

I've admired Pete ever since I've had the pleasure to meet him via the World Monologue Games. He's passion and integrity towards the business of arts is inspiring. I always knew he was brilliant but after only one career coaching session I was in awe: his resourcefulness, his knowledge, and his passion for the arts make him someone trustworthy of guiding another fellow artist to a brighter fulfilling path. I highly recommend him as a coach, besides being witty and smart, he has all the necessary ingredients for success. Many thanks, Pete! Much appreciated! A million thanks one more time; our session was really insightful and valuable, much appreciated 🙂
- Mirela Buhus, actor

Lots of people give ‘free’ stuff away. Not many people give their valuable time and expertise to an individual… for a whole hour… completely FREE! Pete was methodical in his approach as he asked pertinent questions and didn’t let the conversation get side-tracked as he accumulated my responses, before responding himself with relevant information that addressed the holes in my knowledge and helped me achieve a realistic outlook on my project. I would thoroughly recommend Pete as a knowledgeable career coach and a very caring, conscientious and genuine person. Thanks again, Pete!
- Susan Mattocks, writer

Pete’s course (The Intelligent Actor) covered everything from business and production skills for theatre creatives to the basics of writing, directing and performing a monologue. I found this broad reach quite empowering and Pete helped me see what my role as writer/actor might be within a production team. His years of experience and knowledge made him a confident presenter who inspired complete trust. My inner theatrical entrepreneur has been rekindled. Thanks, Pete.
- Kathryn Koromilas, author and actor

A pleasure to chat with you this afternoon, and thank you for doing this, not just for me, but for all those who signed up. I was not sure what we might talk about but, as my notes reveal, we covered an awful lot of ground. Everything you said has given me plenty to think about and to do as I move from being fully employed in a government job to being a freelance in the creative arts. Your approach - focused on steps to consider taking, and things to consider doing, real actionable things - will be enormously useful to me.
- Matt Ruglys, Navy Meteorologist and actor

It really helped me get a clearer vision for my career. I learned a lot more about specific strategies to increase my chances of success for my career and it truly helped me re-evaluate myself and create a target goal for the future. It helped me visualize the different directions I can go with my career. It was a great way for me to benchmark where I am in my career so far.
- Jay Choi, filmmaker and actor

I liked that you first enquired about my aspirations, circumstances and current challenges in detail and then provided me tailored industry insights and trends targeted to my situation. Your advice is relevant and to the point, some of it unique. And I thank you for sharing some uncomfortable truth, nonetheless truth, which I believe is the way to support making the right decision. I couldn't expect more in as short session as one hour. Thank you!!
- Bindoo, actor

Workshops, presenting and consultancy
I took the Advanced Monologue Performance course and had such an amazing experience! Pete conducts the classes with knowledge, wisdom and passion. The course really helped me develop my overall acting skills and taught me how to analyse monologues from a completely new and enriching perspective. It helped me understand different monologue learning techniques and learn new ways of breaking the text into meaningful thoughts and actions that considerably changed my approach to monologue delivery. I deeply recommend taking this opportunity and working on developing your monologue analysis and performance skills. Don't miss out!
- Cris Bocchi, actor

I just wanted to say thanks so much for the great course. I was really nervous about coming, and you created a very safe space that allowed me to explore and to be vulnerable, and to have fun at the same time. Doing this course was always about more than acting for me - it was a step towards recovering lost confidence, and it has been a wonderful experience that has really helped me on that journey. So thank you.
- Samantha Grosser, author

It was a good night. Pete Malicki is an expert in so many areas. An inspiration.
Jay Harley, caricaturist, filmmaker and actor

Hey Pete, excellent presentation last night! Well structured and quite entertaining as well as interactive. You lit a great fire under my ass and got me jazzed to put a lot more focus back on a career that I’ve enjoyed on & off over the last 35 years. Thank you, Pete!
- Jimi Elwell, actor

I wanted to congratulate you on an epic evening last night. Remarkable on its own just for pulling together that incredibly talented diverse room of participants, but the scale of your ambition is fantastic. Your mission to improve the arts, improve the quality, and improve the education around the business side of the arts is wonderful and much needed. You and I have always shared a similar impression of the lack of that business knowledge, and I loved moments of your more honest tone during the Q&A, that spoke to people needing to be more aware of the business side, and questioning why they are making the art that they are; it was very poignant.
-    Steve Tait, former Business Manager Sport For Jove Theatre

I really respect and appreciate all you are doing for the industry. It’s needed and you are offering knowledge and skills in such an honest and caring way. Caring is not exactly the right word, but offering knowledge for free or responsible price as well as connecting people and the international community. It’s very impressive; I think it’s amazing.
- Ebony Halliday, actor

Pete Malicki provided our not-for-profit organisation a two-hour pro bono coaching session which enabled us to talk through our video editing ‘pain points’. Pete was able to quickly identify areas our team could upskill and upgrade, while keeping in mind our small budget. He provided practical, no-nonsense advice on video production, broadcasting and livestreaming, and suggested several relevant avenues of support. Pete is a warm, dynamic person who is both professional to work with and easy to interact with. I thoroughly recommend him as an industry consultant and career development coach.
- Alison Leader, Communications Manager, South Eastern Community Connect

The ease and flow of the event exceeded our expectations, largely due to your detailed guidance through each stage of the planning process, technical knowledge, and on-the-day assistance. The feedback we have received from Forum participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with comments including “it was very well facilitated”. As this was our first online event, your expertise was central to our delivery of a successful and professional Forum. We would not hesitate to engage you again in future. I would like to thank you once again for offering your consultancy services and technical management of the Forum and for your support of the Councils’ work. It has been a pleasure to work with you.
